About Brook M. Blackwell - Freelance Director PDF Print E-mail

Freelance Director

In 2001, upon graduating from AIB College of Business and obtaining my CSR and RPR certifications, I freelanced for eight months in Des Moines before I was hired by the State of Iowa to work as an official reporter for the Hon. Annette J. Scieszinski in the Eighth Judicial District.  Being born and raised in Oskaloosa, I welcomed the opportunity to move back to my hometown.  I worked for Judge Scieszinski in District Court for three and a half years before transitioning into a position with the Hon. Michael R. Stewart in Juvenile Court/District Associate Court in 2005.  In August of 2009, Judge Stewart retired, and I began working for the Hon. Randy S. DeGeest in Juvenile Court/District Associate Court until I was laid off in November of 2009 due to the budget.  I now work as a freelance reporter in southeast Iowa.

Prior to my layoff, I served on the ICRA Officials Committee (District 8).  I have been a director for ICRA since ’09, and I look forward to continuing to serve the membership in my position as a director.  I feel honored to be able to work with such a great group!

In my spare time, my husband, Austin, and I enjoy traveling, attending Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa Hawkeyes football games, spending weekends at Lake Thunderhead, golfing and are active members with the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.  I also enjoy reading, cooking, home renovation, biking, swimming, playing the piano, digital scrapbooking, gardening, volunteering around the community and event planning for family and friends. Austin and I welcomed our first child in November of 2010 and have been busy enjoying our latest addition.
