After completing the court reporting course at AIB in Des Moines in 1977, I began a freelance firm and have been deposition reporting since then, mostly in the central Iowa area, but having opportunity to travel to many other places in our state. I have my Iowa CSR and NCRA's RPR as well as an additional certification in Missouri. I have been married to Neil since 1976, and we currently have a West Highland White Terrier named Sophie, our pride and joy. During an extended period in the '90s and early 2000s, I devoted a great deal of my time and attention to studying theology and counseling, earning doctorate degrees in each. During that time I did a lot of volunteer work, including teaching classes, counseling, leading support groups, and helping to organize various events. At this time, however, I am focused on court reporting and looking forward to serving the great court reporters, CART providers, and captioners of this wonderful state of Iowa as vice president.
My previous experience includes being raised in a political environment where my mother ran for and was elected Clerk of Court for Warren County and served in that capacity for 20 years, and serving as president of the Polk County Court Reporters Association for a year in the '90s. I am currently on AIB's Court Reporting Advisory Board. I enjoy attending conventions and meeting other reporters. I continue to study and read, particularly things of a spiritual nature, as well as do crossword puzzles to keep my mind active and sharp (as if court reporting didn't suffice). And one of my very favorite pastimes is developing new brief forms for the purpose of writing shorthand faster and more efficiently.
